Helen Dearden: Lay Member for Governance

I’m responsible for…
I am a Lay Member on the Governing Body and have responsibility for overseeing key elements of governance and when required deputise for the Chair of the Governing Body. I chair the Remuneration and HR Committees. In common with the other Lay Members my role is to provide a strategic and independent view of LCCG external to the day to day running of the organisation.

My career began in…
I am a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor with experience in the profession and private, public and charitable sectors. I currently hold a number of executive and non-executive board positions in a variety of bodies including Statutory Regulators, Charities and a company that has oversight of the operation of the new Mersey Gateway crossing.

I like coming to work/my role because…
I believe that access to good quality health and social care, education and housing are the building blocks for enabling people to achieve their true potential. This role with LCCG enables me to contribute to an organisation that is committed to improving the health of the people of Liverpool. It is tremendously rewarding to be able to use my skills and experience to contribute to an organisation that can make a positive difference to the lives of so many with a particular focus on tackling health inequalities.

Outside of work I…
I live near Chester with my husband and two rescue cats who need extra attention as they are house cats due to both being FIV positive. On dry sunny days I like to take my classic Mini out for a spin. I enjoy entertaining family and friends and if there is any time left and it is not raining too heavily, I can be found outside tackling the garden or out walking in the hills.
