Mark Bakewell: Acting Chief Finance Officer

I'm responsible for…
being the governing body‘s professional expert on finance, and ensuring that the CCG has robust systems and processes in place to ensure available resources are spent appropriately. This also means making sure that there are appropriate arrangements in place to support, monitor and report on the CCG‘s financial position.

I’m also the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) for CCG so have a range of responsibilities for Information Governance Matters

My career began in…
2001, in the Finance Department at a Mental Health Trust in the West Midlands. Having relocated to the North West in 2005, progressed through a variety of finance roles within Wirral PCT, to become the Chief Finance Officer at NHS Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group from April 2013. I joined Liverpool CCG in September 2016 as Deputy Chief Finance Officer.

I like coming to work/my role because…
my role has such a wide variety and every day is different. I enjoy leading the finance team to add value to decision making processes and working with the rest of the organisation in making sure we make the best use of our available resources to improve the health profile of the population.

Outside of work I…
have 3 children that definitely keep me busy. I enjoy watching most sports (but as my football team is Wolverhampton Wanderers that’s not always easy), running, spinning and travelling.
